Restructured Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program
The state of California, as a part of its budget adoption process for 2008-2009, suspended all GATE program mandates for 5 years.  The San Carlos School District has chosen not to eliminate its GATE program. Rather, it has both reduced the program commensurate with state budget reductions, and at the same time brought it into compliance with changes in program requirements that went into effect some years ago. Contract Negotiations
To The San Carlos Community,

I am pleased to announce that the San Carlos School District and the teachers' union settled contract negotiations for 2008-2009.

This agreement does not increase salaries or benefits for teachers for the current school year. The teachers also agreed to have two days reduced from their contract with a proportional reduction in salary.

I want to thank the San Carlos Teachers Association and their representatives for all their hard work during negotiations. I would also like to thank the Board of Trustees for the countless hours they have spent in this process of the district.

Steven Mitrovich

Superintendent

District Calendar
Parent questions have arisen about the school district calendar. The 2006-07 calendar is set for this year. Parents have scheduled holidays and vacations according to our calendar. For the 2007-08 school year, we will begin work on this calendar soon. The process is to receive input from Sequoia Union High School District because we want our calendar and Sequoia's to be as similar as possible for family vacations. Then the District creates option calendars which we send to the certificated staff, classified staff, principals and PTAs for comments. We choose the calendar that is most desired and that calendar goes to the School Board in early spring for approval. If you have very specific items that you want me to consider as I create the options, let me know by phone or email.
