Science Fair 2008 Guidelines

Welcome to the San Carlos School District Science Fair! Science projects can provide an exciting opportunity to explore areas of individual interest in the field of science. Please review the following guidelines.

The San Carlos School District Science Fair is open to all student in grades 5-8, however students in grades 7 and 8 will be required to compete a project as part of their regular course work. All projects will be turned in to the classroom science teachers and then the teachers will be selecting exemplary projects from each middle school to go on to the San Carlos District Science Fair.

Each student, or pair of students, will create a unique science project. Students will select a topic to investigate and get approval from the teacher prior to beginning the project.

All projects must be completed at home by the student and adhere to the guidelines in the following pages. Parents and advisors may give advice but they may not do the project for the student.

Finalists from the district fair may qualify to go to the San Mateo County Science Fair. Finalists from the county fair may quality to go on to the Bay Area or State Science Fairs.*

There are two major components for the science projects: one component is to create a scientific experiment to test something, while the second component is the scientific write-up of the experiment. All science projects are due by December 12th.

Original Work, no plagiarism

*Note: The Bay Area Science Fair only accepts individual projects from 7th -12th graders. The State Science Fair accepts projects from individuals and teams of students in 6th-12th grades.
