The Rite Of Passage ExperienceS (ROPES) program is specifically designed as an optional enrichment activity as students complete a cycle of their education (elementary to middle school, lower house to upper house, middle school to high school). ROPES is a community endeavor supported by many groups and organizations in San Carlos. The ROPES project gives students in fourth, sixth and eighth grade opportunities to explore and demonstrate project based learning. The project is an opportunity for students to participate in an academic ritual by way of real-life learning experiences.
ROPES participants select from the list of ROPES Challenges in the provided handbook. These challenges encourage students to use their school learning to suggest solutions, research information, or create products that reflect real life situations. Each challenge gives students a chance to demonstrate critical thinking and creativity and each can be done individually or with a partner. The projects that students choose should reflect seriousness, pride, effort, organization and quality of work.
The final task of this experience will be an oral presentation about your project to a panel of judges. The presentation to the judges will show what students have learned and how participating has helped the student to better himself/herself and/or the community.
