This section of our website is devoted to our ongoing discussion of the current budget crisis in California, its impact on our school district, potential adjustments to current programs and staffing levels; and how, as a community, we can work together to overcome these challenging times.
April 17, 2009 2009-10 Budget Adoption Calendar - April UPDATE The budget adoption calendar is the currently known dated sequence of events that will occur during the 2008-09 school year in order to meet various timelines that will ultimately result in the adoption of the 2009-10 district budget. CBO Kelly Price will update the calendar as current information becomes known. March 20, 2009 Impact of the May 19 Ballot Propositions School Services of California published a summery report of the potential impact of the statewide special election scheduled for May 19. After listening to community feedback, a redesigned Budget Crisis survey is now open to submit your thoughts on possible cuts and reductions. We are asking that everyone who completed the previous survey submit a new response. This survey closes on Friday, March 13 at 5PM. February 04, 2009 Governor's Proposals for the 2009-10 State Budget and K-12 Education (prepared by School Services of California) School Services of California published the following report on proposed budget changes to K-12 Education in the upcoming year.
Superintendent of Education, Jack O'Connell's State of Public Education Address "State Superintendent of Public Instruction O'Connell discussed the impact of the national economic downturn and the state budget crisis on public education in California. Given the challenging economic times, O'Connell also laid out a series of proposals aimed at continuing to improve student performance and close the achievement gap." February 03, 2009 Budget Survey - Community Input Guides New Survey Design Due to the many comments and suggestions about the budget reduction survey, I am going to remove the current survey and draft a new survey. Thank you to all of you who participated so far and please participate again when the new survey is posted. The board, the district staff, and I value your input and thank you for your understanding. It is anticipated that the new survey will be on-line around March 1st and reported to the board by March 19th. -Steve Mitrovich
