Students may receive any combination of services, based on their IEP. Services in the San Carlos School District include:

Speech and Language: Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) are available at all school sites and provide specialized therapy in articulation, voice, fluency and language disorders. They collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure success of all students with communication skills.  Current speech and language providers are as follows:

Resource Specialist Program: Resource Specialists (RSP) are available on each campus site as well and they provide individualized instruction to students in areas such as (but not limited to) reading, writing, spelling, and math. Additionally, they too collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure success for special needs students in the general education classroom. Current RSP teachers are as follows:

Special Education and Special Day Classes: These are offered at selected elementary and middle school campuses within the district for students with similar educational needs ranging from preschool through middle school. Classes offer a high staff to student ratio, with a special education teacher and trained para-educators. Related Services:  Services such as Adaptive Physical Education (APE), behavioral support, inclusion support, nursing services, counseling support and occupational therapy are available to students as a “related service” when the IEP team determines a specific need.

The District’s Occupational Therapists (OT) provide direct services and/or consultative services to students and staff on all campus sites. Current OTs are as follows:

Autism-Behavior Specialist, Kelsey Petithomme, provides direct support to students, educational training as well as consultative and collaborative support to parents and staff. She also plays and integral part in the professional development of our para-educators and in ensuring home and school behavioral and social play support for our students.

Additional specialists are provided through the county for students with low-incidence disabilities such as hearing or visual impairments, as well as for behavioral support, hard of hearing, audiology and APE services.
